Have you ever wondered how we are able to hear the world around us? The human ear is an incredible and complex organ that allows us to detect sound and communicate with others.
There are two ways we hear, we have the air conduction pathway and bone conduction pathway, the air conduction pathway is the process where the external ear picks the vibration in the air and deliver it to the middle ear to concentrate the vibrations to the inner ear that is incased in side our skull. The inner ear, specifically the cochlea, will process vibration and transmute it to electric signals and deliver it to the brain via the nerve. The brain then interpret it as sound.
The second way to hear is through bone conduction pathway, This pathway basically by passes the function of the outer ear and the middle ear, in which we directly vibrate the skull that in cases the inner ear. Once we vibrate the cochlea, the flluid inside the cochlea will move and this stimulating the sensory cell which what we call the hair cells, These hair cells will transmute the kinetic energy to electric energy and transmit it to the cochlear nerve, once the stimuli reach the brain, these electric signals will be deciphered to be interpreted as “sound”.
